Mallorca
27th July - 6th August

The 2002 Summer holiday saw two significant departures for us, we booked it very early and we went for 10 days. Our hotel, the Es Moli, was in Deia (or Deya) which lies to the West, perched high in the mountains. We chose the holiday for the hotel and it did not disappoint. Indeed, it is a place that people seem to return to time and again. Practically everyone we met had been there before, some up to 27 times. We could quite see why, the facilities were excellent, the staff very friendly, the food varied and well presented and the atmosphere relaxed. If you like peace, quiet and comfort you could hardly ask for a better location.

Our days were packed with doing very little, but we did make some use of the local buses to go to Soller, where we took the narrow-gauge train to Palma, and to Valldemosa where we didn't do anything very much. Other than that, we made good use of the hotel's private "beach" at La Muleta and lay by the pool.

The only slight disappointment was the weather. I was expecting ten days of brilliant sunshine and a deep tan, but there was quite a lot of cloud, some thunderstorms and although the sun shone brightly for a lot of the time the tanning process seemed to be very slow. However, given the torrential rain and low temperatures we've had since our return I'd settle for Mallorca (Majorca) any day.
